Lifestyle

Lifestyle, portrait, and posed...there are soooooo many ways to take pictures and each style has pros and cons. Rambunctious kiddos, moody teens, and shy babies can make it difficult to get the picture where everyone is looking at the camera. These scenarios can take a light and fun photoshoot and quickly turn it sour. But great news, that's where lifestyle photography steps in and saves the day. Lifestyle photography is a way to capture the true essence of the love between siblings and the sweet moments shared between mom and dad. Another amazing photographer taught me that there is a beauty and relief in stepping away from poses and capturing the "real" interactions in each photoshoot. It gets out of the portrait or posed photography and allows your family to just be themselves and be in the moment. Lifestyle photography takes the stress out of photoshoots for mom's, dad's, and kids. Mom's don't have to be behind the photographer telling their 5-year-old to use their real smile or try to get their toddler to sit for more than 5 seconds. With lifestyle photography your family is unfiltered and the giggles are real.

Posed

Posed photography is when the photographer places you and your family in certain poses that have been used before and have shown to be a tried and true to capture your best angles and features. We start at your feet and place them "just so" and move body part by body part up to your head to give you the most flattering pictures. For your family, we call this "grandma's picture" or the "holy grail." This is the one where everyone is looking at the camera and smiling. It is the one where mom and grandma want to print it out as big as they can and put in on the wall. The goal with posed pictures is to make it look natural while making sure to capture the right angles and get everyone looking at the camera and smiling. This can be the toughest kind of photography and let's be honest, sometimes it is impossible to get no matter how great the photographer may be.

Which is right for your family?

As a photographer, I try to be open minded and flexible and meet your family on their level. I will always try to get "grandma's picture" but if kiddos aren't having it then moving on to something they are interested in is key to helping them enjoy the photos. There are many special moments that can be captured when you are willing to step away from poses or when you allow kids to just be kids. My favorite photoshoots are ones where we play airplane, ring around the rosy, or even "Oh my gosh! You're in the quicksand!" Photoshoots are fun and capturing your memories is the ultimate goal.

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
